Homes for our Heroes scheme launches for Keyworkers

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a hugely challenging time for us all and the role of our ‘Keyworkers’ in supporting the general public and keeping the nation moving during the crisis has been nothing short of heroic.

As a way of saying thank you to our Keyworkers, we have launched our ‘Homes for our Heroes’ scheme. This is a unique reward scheme that involves an exclusive Homes for our Heroes package that will be included as part of a home purchase with Gentoo Homes.

The package, which is worth up to £5,000, is specific to each development and house type. Packages for Keyworkers could include:

  • Upgraded luxury flooring throughout
  • Fitted blinds throughout
  • AEG integrated appliances
  • Gardens turfed to rear
  • High quality move in furniture pack to include sofa, bedroom furniture, dining room table/chairs and kitchen essentials pack
  • Luxury Hammonds fitted wardrobes to bedrooms one and two
  • Factory fitted mirrors to bathrooms
  • Upgraded light switches

Who qualifies for the scheme?

All Keyworkers, as defined in the Government’s list of critical workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, which covers a range of job roles and industries as listed below.

Health and Social Care

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Doctors, nurses, midwives, paramedics, social workers, care workers and other frontline health and social care staff including volunteers
  • The support and specialist staff required to maintain the UK’s health and social care sector
  • Those working as part of the health and social care supply chain, including producers and distributors of medicines and medical and personal protective equipment

Education and Childcare

This includes:

  • Childcare
  • Support and teaching staff
  • Social workers
  • Specialist education professionals who must remain active during the COVID-19 response to deliver this approach

Key Public Services

This includes:

  • Those essential to the running of the justice system
  • Religious staff
  • Charities and workers delivering key frontline services
  • Those responsible for the management of the deceased
  • Journalists and broadcasters who are providing public service broadcasting

Local and National Government

This only includes:

  • Those administrative occupations essential to the effective delivery of the COVID-19 response
  • Those delivering essential public services, such as the payment of benefits, including in government agencies and arm’s length bodies

Food and other necessary goods

This includes those involved in food:

  • Production
  • Processing
  • Distribution
  • Sale and delivery
  • As well as those essential to the provision of other key goods (for example hygienic and veterinary medicines)

Public Safety and National Security

  • Police and support staff
  • Ministry of Defence civilians
  • Contractor and Armed Forces personnel (those critical to the delivery of key defence and national security outputs and essential to the response to the COVID-19 outbreak)
  • Fire and Rescue Service employees (including support staff)
  • National Crime Agency staff
  • Those maintaining border security, prison and probation staff and other national security roles, including those overseas


  • This includes those who will keep the air, water, road and rail passenger and freight transport modes operating during the COVID-19 response, including those working on transport systems through which supply chains pass.

Utilities, Communication and Financial Services

  • Staff needed for essential financial services provision (including but not limited to workers in banks, building societies and financial market infrastructure)
  • The oil, gas, electricity and water sectors (including sewerage)
  • Information technology and data infrastructure sector and primary industry supplies to continue during the COVID-19 response
  • Key staff working in the civil nuclear, chemicals, telecommunications (including but not limited to network operations, field engineering, call centre staff, IT and data infrastructure, 999 and 111 critical services)
  • Postal services and delivery
  • Payments providers
  • Waste disposal sectors

Terms and Conditions of the Homes for our Heroes scheme:

  • This scheme is subject to property type and development (£5,000 is based on a five bedroom detached home)
  • Offer is valid on all new reservations that take place following the launch of this offer on Saturday 30th May and prior to 31st December 2020, on homes that will legally complete in 2020 or 2021
  • It is available on all Gentoo Homes developments only
  • The Gentoo ‘Homes for our Heroes’ scheme is a discount offer and is available to all current ‘Keyworkers’ as defined on the Government's original definition, which is listed above
  • You will need to provide proof of eligibility as a ‘Keyworker’ and Gentoo’s decision in respect of the validity of any proof and eligibility is final
  • Only one discount may be used in the purchase of a property and no other Gentoo Homes offers may be used in conjunction
  • Availability of this offer is subject to relevant lender and Help To Buy approval and subject to a 28 day exchange of contracts
